Pune is the proud host of the Commonwealth Youth Games 2008. An independent multi sports event, the Youth Games are a run up and a trial event to the Commonwealth Games 2010 to be held in Delhi. The Commonwealth Youth Games is an opportunity for Pune to figure prominently on the world map. It is for the first time in the history of the Commonwealth Youth Games that all 71 countries will participate in this event - more than 2000 athletes and officials will participate in 9 sports disciplines viz. Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling.

Business Week ranked Pune 3rd fastest emerging global city. Pune is a major industrial centre growing rapidly every year. It is home to some of the major units like Bajaj Auto, Tata motors, Kinetic Engineering, Kirloskar pumps, Bharat Forge, Thermax, Finolex, etc. Pune is also known for its strong automobile hub. It is nick named 'Detroit of India'.

In education circles, Pune is known as Oxford of the East. It is home for many institutions of national importance like National Chemical Laboratory, National Insurance Academy. It has the highest number of foreign students enrolled in India. Pune provides excellent environment for overall growth of the student.

Pune is home to the great Maratha king Shivaji Maharaj and carries a great historical background. Shaniwar Wada, Lal Mahal, Agakhan Palace prove as evidence to the history. There are different forts of his nearby to visit like Sinhagad, Raigad, Rajgad, and Purandhar to name a few. It is a city having pleasant climate with 40% of the city covered by greenery and vegetation. Pune is surrounded by the Sahyadris so it's a great experience for the juveniles to trek during their spare time.

Pune is an important cantonment town since the first decade of the nineteenth century. Headquarters of the Indian Army's Southern Command is located here. Pune is one of the alma maters of the Sappers of the Indian Army as the College of Military Engineering and the Bombay Engineering Group and Centre are located here. The prestigious National Defense Academy at Khadakwasla is considered to be the equivalent of West Point except that the cadets of all services are trained together.

The city is full of entertainment throughout the year. Pune being the cultural capital of Maharashtra, there are festivals of different religions throughout the year to enjoy. During the month of August - September Ganapati is a festival to look out for as there is joy and excitement for ten days. In the month of November - December there are music and theatre festivals to look out for as well renowned artists perform spectacular events and shows. There are many multiplexes that have come to keep the crowd updated on the movies. You will find college crowds hanging out at the different hangouts like Vaishali in Deccan Gymkhana, Mocha, Barista, Cafe Coffee Day, and at the lounges at night. There are organisations which arrange treks, travels and camps for the enthusiastic youth who enjoy nature, wildlife and the peaceful serene surrounding.

Pune would be a great place to start a business in regards to the food and beverage industry. You will find a diverse and well educated crowd who has keen interest and good taste when comes to food. The citizens are fond of having different kind of variety. The nightlife is no less at the time of dawn, when the sun sets. There are different lounges, cafes, pubs, discos to let your hair down and enjoy at the end of a tiring day. Pune is definitely the place to be since there is unity in diversity and always scope for growth.
